Cultural Competence in Forensic Mental Health Assessment and Treatment with Barry Rosenfeld

PAST PROGRAM  The workshop - Cultural Competence in Forensic Mental Health Assessment and Treatment - was presented by  nationally recognized speaker on the issues, Barry Rosenfeld PhD, ABPP.  He covered a range of  issues related to forensic assessment of individuals from diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds: overview of the construct of “cultural competence” and requisite self-assessment and pre-evaluation cultural research that is often necessary for cross-cultural assessments; modifications to the typical evaluation and treatment process; decision-making regarding psychological testing and interpretation of test results; impact of language and culture on the therapeutic alliance; use (and misuse) of interpreters; and ethical issues related to cross-cultural forensic assessment and treatment.
